Constantly growing cities

Home to nearly two thirds of the population by 2050, the city of tomorrow will experience a very strong growth of its population and then an increasing use of its public transport. Faced with these new challenges, the current transport networks will have to be bold and imaginative in order to rise seize this evolution. In fact, having to work with increasingly restrictive budgetary constraints, transport authorities must combine flexibility and innovation. Thus, developing an offer finely tuned to demand would provide the opportunity to increase the comfort of travelers while increasing the total capacity of the network, all of this at the same operational cost!

But how to know more precisely the demand? How to develop the flexibility of the transport offer?

Nowadays, public transport operators have to conduct on field surveys to have insights about how the commuters use their network. These surveys need a lot of time, are very costly and not that much precise. In a evermore digitized world, It has become necessary to bring new tools to the table.

The answers certainly remains in the use of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. Urban transport operators have always accumulated the data without having the tools to fully exploit them. This data of ticketing, exploitation or GPS positions constitute a gold mine which can be exploited in order to accelerate the processes of optimization of their network and to apprehend more precisely the way in which its users travel within this network. With this knowledge, the operator can offer a more reliable service, meeting the expectations of a changing world.
